Don't know why it's taken us this long, but the girls had their first bites of grapefruit and oranges today. Noey, who has turned picky in recent months, declined more, and Zora, who has swung in the other direction, clammered for "Mo! Mo!"
We've come a long way from having to wake the girls up every three hours to try to get a few ounces of breast milk into them - to the first bites of solid food. These days they still love yogurt, are digging on sliced black olives, eat pureed sweet potatoes and kale mixed with oatmeal or baby cereal, drink whole and flax milk (trying to keep Noemi from having too much dairy as our solution to recurring ear infections), eat veggie chicken patties, love toast with butter, munch on cheese, frozen carrots, and frozen peas, have been slurping down the pears and apples that have been coming in thanks to Real Food Rising's new fruit harvesting program, and can't get enough of humus on crackers. Plus whenever they get their hands on slices of real chicken -- they scarf it all right down.
This afternoon we picked a bunch of grapes from our side fence and popped a few in their mouths and then they were hooked.. Zora, especially, bounced up and down smiling and laughing in anticipation of more grapes.
